Monarchs on Goldenrod

Tobay beach is an ocean beach on the barrier islands of Long Island. Among the dunes goldenrod grows in profusion, and so there is a patch of it growing next to the boardwalk at Tobay. On this October day I encountered dozens of monarch butterflies happily feeding on the goldenrod's nectar. It was a beautiful sight.
